At FBHC, our team is made up of licensed and certified professionals, social workers and mental health professionals who are passionate about making a difference. Each team member brings their own area of expertise, cultural competence and clinical training to support our diverse client base. Many of our clinicians are bilingual and have specialized training in areas such as trauma recovery, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), child and adolescent mental health, substance use disorder and more.
Above all, our staff shares a common mission: to provide a therapeutic experience grounded in empathy, professionalism and the belief that change is always possible.

Dr. Shiraz Butt, MD
Dr. Shiraz Butt is the medical director of FBHC and a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. He has held leadership roles in behavioral health since 2007 and currently serves as medical director at Chicago Behavioral Hospital. From June 2009 to October 2014, Dr. Butt was affiliated with Maryville’s Behavioral Health Hospital.
His training includes a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago (1999–2001) and a General Psychiatry Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee (1996–1999). Dr. Butt earned his M.D. from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1993.

Sarah Melgarejo, LCPC Clinical Director
Sarah Melgarejo holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in women’s studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Master of Arts in counseling psychology from Northwestern University. Shortly after completing her graduate studies, she joined Maryville Academy in 2002 as a clinical therapist in one of its residential programs. Over the next eight years, Sarah served in various clinical roles, gaining broad experience working with youth involved in the juvenile justice system, inpatient psychiatric care, addiction and recovery programs and youth with developmental disabilities.
In 2010, she transitioned into an administrative leadership role as program director, overseeing several of Maryville’s residential youth homes. Her continued dedication and clinical expertise led to her promotion in 2013 to clinical director for Maryville Academy. In this capacity, Sarah oversees all clinical services within the residential programs, in addition to managing mental health services provided through the Family Behavioral Health Clinic. She also leads agency-wide training initiatives and spearheads the ongoing implementation of Maryville’s trauma-informed care model, ARC (Attachment, Regulation and Competency).
Sarah’s professional interests and areas of expertise include group dynamics, organizational behavior, and complex childhood trauma. Deeply committed to community involvement, she also serves on the board of the North Center for Handicapped Children, helping to advocate for inclusive, supportive services for children with disabilities.

Frederick Smith, M.B.A., M.P.H.
Administrator of Community Services
Frederick Smith began his service to the country immediately after high school by joining the United States Army, where he served in the 325th Airborne Infantry Paratrooper Unit during Operation Desert Storm. He is a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), continuing his commitment to supporting fellow service members.
Fred earned his Bachelor of Arts in communications from Northeastern Illinois University, followed by dual master’s degrees—an MBA and an MPH—from Saint Xavier University. Known among colleagues for his strong leadership, Fred is recognized for his ability to provide clear direction, his meticulous attention to detail and his effectiveness as a communicator.
In his free time, Fred enjoys unwinding at indoor and outdoor batting cages, which he finds both relaxing and energizing. One of his favorite quotes is, “Peace if possible, but justice at any rate,” which is a reflection of his balanced approach to leadership and life.

James Eaglin, CADC
Jim Eaglin is a certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor with over 14 years of experience working with at-risk clients, as well as a certified DASA DUI service provider. He has provided both group and individual counseling services for more than 13 years and spent seven of those years managing a dual diagnosis program, supporting clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University and continues to bring a compassionate, client-centered approach to every aspect of his work.

Agnes Galinski
Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Agnes has been working with individuals struggling with substance use disorders, as well as those at risk of developing substance-related challenges, since 2018. She is deeply committed to supporting clients as they navigate their personal journey and seek meaningful change in their lives. Agnes views recovery as a powerful and transformative adventure—an inward journey of self-discovery, acceptance and growth that uncovers both inner strengths and limitations.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in deep respect for each individual’s experience and guided by empathy, acceptance and a strong belief in the capacity for change. Agnes emphasizes an individualized approach, recognizing that every person’s path to recovery is unique. She is passionate about helping people tap into their motivation to change and enjoys working in both individual and group counseling settings.
To support her clients effectively, she incorporates evidence-based methods such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to promote lasting, constructive progress.

Angelica Martinez
Licensed Social Worker
Angelica Martinez is a dedicated mental health professional with experience supporting children (age 6 and older), teens, adults and families through challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm, mood disorders and impulse control issues.
She provides individualized and family therapy in a compassionate, safe space, tailoring her approach to each client’s needs. Her work integrates evidence-based practices, including client centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, trauma-informed care and strengths-based techniques.
Martinez holds a bachelor’s degree in social work with a specialization in child welfare and a master’s degree in social work. Since 2021, she has provided therapy to individuals, groups and families. She also completed 40 hours of domestic violence training in 2019 and received training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention in 2023.
She believes transformation is a journey that takes time, patience and support—and is committed to walking alongside her clients with empathy, honesty and encouragement.

Justina Nawrot
Licensed Mental Health Professional

Justina Nawrot is a compassionate and dedicated licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a master’s degree in forensic psychology. Fluent in both English and Polish, she believes therapy is an empowering and rewarding experience, made meaningful through a strong therapeutic relationship and collaborative work.
Nawrot’s goal is to create a warm, engaging and supportive space where clients of all ages can feel safe to explore, heal and grow. She utilizes a variety of evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), client centered therapy, trauma-informed care and solution-focused therapy.
With three years of experience, Nawrot’s therapeutic style is flexible and personalized. She is grounded in the belief that every individual has the capacity for change and the resilience needed to create a more fulfilling life. Nawrot has experience addressing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, panic, life transitions, trauma, self-harm, mood disorders and more.
She offers both individual and family therapy, with a focus on fostering genuine connection and lasting change. Nawrot works with clients to identify areas of their lives that feel misaligned and supports them in building a healthier, more empowered version of themselves.

Maria Sanchez, MSW, LSW, PEL
Licensed Social Worker

Maria Sanchez is a licensed master’s social worker with a professional educator license (PEL) and nearly two decades of experience serving children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Since 2004, Maria has worked across various settings, including early childhood education centers, hospitals, Head Start programs, elementary schools and inpatient facilities.
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in the biopsychosocial model. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to provide individualized, empathetic care tailored to each client’s needs.
Maria is dedicated to building a strong therapeutic alliance, fostering a safe and supportive environment where clients feel seen, heard and respected. With humility and without judgment, Maria supports individuals through life’s challenges, always affirming their dignity and worth. She believes that everyone, regardless of circumstance, deserves compassionate care and the opportunity to grow and heal.
